The
Field Museum of Chicago: S.O.S. - Save Our Soil Game Interactive
Game
This
interactive game is part of a permanent exhibit at the Field Museum
called Underground Adventure.
This game allows museum visitors to "become"
a Farmer, Gardener, Land Planner or Ecologist. Users make decisions
about how to care for their soil and to learn what the short and
long term consequences of those decisions are. Each scenario required
eight different illustrations of the short and long term results
of the land they were effecting.
A special feature of this application was the
use of Microsoft Active X Agents as narrators. These characters,
designed by Joel Farrel, were lip synced with the audio narration.
I created the mouth positions for each character and assembled
them using the Active X Agent program. The text also appeared
in balloons which helped us to easily comply with ADA standards.
