The
Underground Adventure game consisted of four modules, each
consistent in functionality and design and programmed in Visual
Basic.
I created a set of storyboard templates used in the creation
of each of these modules. The printouts of these boards were used
by the writer, programmer and myself to keep track of:
- copy edits.
- graphics files usage and placement coordinates.
- program functionality and
animation instructions.
- naming conventions.
- beta-testing notes.
Microsoft Word
For the Hewitt Sales Presentation project I
created boards in Microsoft Word which allowed the client to edit
the final copy and approve the artwork before production began.
The project consisted of a series of sales presentation modules
that were built using Director 8.5. The programmer simply cut
and paste the final copy from the boards into the application.
The artwork for the boards was created in Illustrator and also
used in the final screen production process which helped to save
time and money.
The boards were later modified and used as a reference guide
for the sales people who used the modules.
Powerpoint
For the Sara Lee Ethis Training program, I created storyboards
in Powerpoint so the client, who was also the writer, could easily
edit changes to the text, approve the artwork on each of the screens
and see how the program would flow from one screen to the next.
Once the client approved the boards, the application was created
in Authorware. The programmer used the boards for cutting and
pasting the lesson text into the application. I used the Notes
display in Powerpoint to provide the programmer with graphics
file names, coordinates, and animation instructions.
Using these boards saved a great deal of time and money. There
were only two small graphics changes and a minimal amount of copy
and progranmming tweaks to the 6-module, 100+ screen program once
it was assembled.
HTML
For Demoshield's sales presentation CD I used HTML storyboards
assembled in Dreamweaver and posted on the company's intranet
site. These helped facilitate communication between me and the
programmer, who was working in a separate office.
The sales application was being built using Demoshield so the
boards contain a graphic of the assembled screen, names and descriptions
of all the graphics used and the coordinates for where they needed
to be placed.
The storyboard pages are linked together along with a sitemap
page for quick navigation and a page that lists file naming conventions.
